Normal L. Philips is the pastor of A New Thing Ministries International in Atlanta, Georgia. A relatively new congregation, A New Thing Ministries International is committed to winning souls including new converts and lost Christians locally and throughout the world. For the past eighteen years, Dr. Phillips has counseled families, couples, individuals, and survivors of rape and domestic violence. She established a Marriage and Family Institute that consists of life skill classes and retreats for married couples, premarital couples, singles, divorcees, and parents. She is an adjunct professor of Christian Counseling at Divine Faith Ministries School of Biblical Studies in Jonesboro, Georgia. She received a Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois, in Pastoral Care and a Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. She is also a gerontologist, holding a graduate certificate in Gerontology from Georgia State University in Atlanta Georgia. Furthermore, she is active on several boards and coalitions that sponsor senior adult programs and has established two senior adult programs--ROSA (Reaching Out to Senior Adults) in Atlanta, Madison and Rome Georgia, comprising 39 interdenominational churches (nine denominations), and FIA LoveNCare Volunteer Program, a food and friendly visits service of 50 food boxes per month to homebound and disadvantaged persons in metropolitan Atlanta. A Life Coach, Dr. Phillips speaks regularly on topics related to marriage and family, anger, forgiveness, trauma, and sexual abuse. She is the author of Violated But Not Forsaken: Triumph of a Rape Survivor and contributing writer of “Should We Stop and Help?” in Those Preaching Women: African American Preachers Tackle Tough Questions, Volume 2. Both works are moving testimonies of her personal survival from a serial rape experience.
